Ottawa Transit Commission chair Glen Gower should be admired for putting on a brave face in describing OC Transpo’s proposed route changes. Re: OC Transpo’s route changes will serve commuters better, Nov. Maybe the mayor, council and transit commission should ditch their rides for a six months and see what relying on public transit is all about.Ī win-win would be to make Ottawa’s public transit reliable then more people will ride. Those individuals do not have a car at their disposal and cannot afford taxis, Uber or ride-share to get around for work, school, appointments, church, shopping, leisure or just plain visiting family and friends. The cuts and route changes proposed may serve transit’s bottom line, but they will hurt the most vulnerable. The cuts to routes will see more cars on our already-busy roads, which is what the LRT (when it works of course) was supposed to eliminate in the first place. 13.Ĭutting routes and “robbing Peter to pay Paul” in order to keep our transit system afloat is not the answer. Re: Want better public transit, Ottawa? Invest in it, Nov. Our officials need only to look outside the box a little. The site will also be close to LRT stops. This would be a marked improvement compared to living in an arena. That should not be a big deal seeing the building and 99 per cent of the infrastructure is already there. The main issue would be to expand washroom facilities. Mobility issues could be satisfied by keeping those users to the ground floors. Spaces could even have sleeping tents for privacy. Personal space could be set up using the thousands of redundant (new or almost new) cubicles that are currently being disposed of. The structure is still heated and totally operational.
